1957, Rubber City Open
As a young man of 15 years of age in 1957, one of my big thrills was getting to know Arnold Palmer. Back in the early 50’s, my job was taking care of the pros’ clubs for the week of the tournament. I remember the 1957 Rubber City Open so well because the tournament came to a sudden death playoff between Arnold Palmer and Doug Ford. It was a thrill for me because I was able to watch the playoff and on the 6th hole, Palmer chipped in to beat Ford. From that day on, he was my idol!
